It's officially wedding season! Before we get started, I would like to provide this little video as a disclaimer on where I come from as far as me getting married.
That being said, I LOVE WEDDINGS! The food, the music, the love! An open bar doesn't hurt either! I got the chance to go to a friend's wedding with one of my besties last weekend, and we decided to make a trip of it! It was a little over an hour out of town, so we booked a hotel, hopped in the car, and pumped the tunes.
When it comes to wedding attire, my advice is simple.
1) Wear what you feel great in! There will probably be lots of photos taken, even if you're not close to the people getting married, so you want to feel awesome in whatever you show up in. Plus, few things can make a single girl feel as unpretty as a beautiful bride marrying her person. Whether you're coupled, single, engaged, or rolling with your homies, you don't want someone else's joy to bring you down!
2) Prepare for the dance floor! Now you might be a "Sip on some beer at your table" kind of person, but if there's a dance floor, I'm on it. Make sure that there aren't any funny snags or intense slips; you want to be able to boogie down without fear of a wardrobe malfunction.
3) Shoes. Wear what you like, but be prepared for moving across rocks, gravel, grass, sand or whatever terrain these nuptials might have you cover. For those who like androgyny, this is the time to break out your new brogues. Masculine attendees who opt for color in the suit, might like a solid light brown almond toe shoe. Femmes, if you go for heels, opt for wedges or block heels!
4) Bling! However you accessorize, make sure you have enough room in your purse/pockets for a lip product if you're using one, tissues (for tears or wine spills), and your phone. No one likes losing their peeps at a wedding.
Above all, enjoy yourself! Weddings can be stressful, but the whole point of them is to celebrate how the love of two people can enrich and expand our idea of family and belonging. Share the joy!
