The jumpsuit reminded me of my trip to Europe last winter, particularly, the ladies at the cafes in Paris and Barcelona. They chatted furiously about I don’t know what to their friends, colleagues and dates. They seemed opinionated, charged, and thoughtful. Some had taken a break from errands to socialize, others were simply waiting for their daily espresso, but each one seemed so beautiful and stylish.
What is that quintessentially European thing so many artists try endlessly to capture in photos, paintings, and films? Effortless Cool. The ability to enjoy life so thoroughly that the enjoying feels like an activity all its own. It’s the sort of place where picking flowers at the market is a pastime, and coffee is sipped, not rushed, because there’s no place you’d rather be on a sunny afternoon than at the cafe. Books are read in hand, not skimmed on a Kindle. A place where people don’t seem to have to try.
And isn’t that some kind of fantasy?
